Millbrook Proving Ground is located near Ampthill in Bedfordshire. We regularly use their 700-acre facility to explore car and driver handling techniques and dynamics.
Facilities include the following: - Steering Pad – used to explore the effects of understeer, oversteer and on-limit cornering
- Hill Route – a series of three graded loops simulating an alpine pass, with all varieties of camber and gradient. Can be used as a conventional road, as a continental driving environment or to develop correct lines for race/track techniques
- High Speed Bowl – used for stability and achieving top speeds
- Mile Straight – used for high speed acceleration and braking exercises, alternative gear change techniques, (heel & toe for sprinting, track etc.)
- Outer Handling Circuit – a mini race circuit, with minimal run-off and no margin for error – used for developing accuracy, forces of cornering and balance
- Wetted Area – three surfaces with differing coefficients of grip, used for steering control and straight line braking
